Avalanche Developer Workshop in Nairobi: Inclusive and Built for Builders

The Avalanche Developer Workshop recently took place at the Nairobi Game Development Center (NGDC), located on the 6th floor of Diamond Plaza on Pramukh Swami Avenue in Nairobi County. From personal experience, the center offered not just a conducive learning environment but also solid on-site security, which made the day smooth, safe, and focused.

This workshop was a clear example of Avalanche’s mission to scale its ecosystem into regions like Africa, and more specifically, Kenya, where local talent and communities are ripe for blockchain adoption. Led by Lavender, the key ecosystem builder and a smart contract developer, the workshop gave participants an immersive introduction to Avalanche and its ambitious growth strategy.

Introduction to Avalanche and Team One

Avalanche is a high-performance blockchain platform tailored for smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). Known for its scalability, speed, and eco-friendly consensus, Avalanche is rapidly gaining ground globally.

At the core of its growth is Team One originally known as the Ambassador DAO a strategic initiative launched by Avalanche, spearheaded by Lavender. Team One aims to expand Avalanche’s reach through community education, local engagement, and inclusive participation across continents, including Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Ambassador Program: Built for Everyone

One of the key pillars Lavender emphasized was the Avalanche Ambassador Program, a standout initiative for its inclusive approach welcoming not only developers but also creatives, writers, artists, and community leaders.

Ambassador Roles:

  • Non-Technical Ambassadors: Focus on organizing events, growing communities, and creating engaging content.

  • Technical Ambassadors: Lead workshops, contribute to education, and drive developer engagement.

  • Digital Ambassadors: Host virtual meetups and engage with online communities across social media platforms.

Perks of Being an Ambassador:

  • Access to exclusive events

  • Funding support for initiatives

  • Professional recognition and rewards

  • Opportunities to collaborate on Avalanche projects

Events and Opportunities: What’s Coming

Lavender also teased exciting upcoming events and opportunities:

  • Smart VR Gaming Nights: With free tickets to the Yearn Grand Prix.

  • Africa Hackathon: Featuring a $5,000 bounty, encouraging developers to innovate using Avalanche tools.

  • Nairobi Hackathon (August): Applications opening soon a chance for local builders to shine.

  • Avalanche Summit, London: Giveaway tickets available for developers eager to network and learn at the global level.

Developer Resources: Build with Avalanche

For builders, Avalanche offers a full suite of support:

  • Builders Hub: Comprehensive documentation, tutorials, and tools for developers from setting up nodes to launching dApps.

  • Avalanche Academy: Free courses ranging from beginner to advanced topics, including Chainlink integration and interchain messaging.

Funding Programs:

  • Codebase Grant Program: Supports innovative projects with direct funding.

  • InfraBuild: Focused on consumer apps and gaming-related dApps.

  • Blizzard Fund: A venture capital initiative offering larger-scale investment for startups.

Community, Education & DAO Empowerment

Avalanche is actively working with universities in Kenya and across Africa, establishing Team One blockchain clubs. These serve as hubs for learning and innovation, nurturing the next generation of blockchain leaders.

Community coordination is handled primarily via Telegram and WhatsApp, with a strong focus on student engagement. Lavender noted that the long-term goal is to decentralize governance, empowering the community to run the DAO, make decisions, and build from the grassroots up.

An open invitation was extended to women and underrepresented groups to join the space, offering mentorship and technical guidance to those ready to learn and build.

Looking Ahead: Avalanche in Africa

With Avalanche soon celebrating one year in Kenya, Lavender emphasized the goal of expanding deeper into East, West, and South Africa. Through strategic partnerships, local clubs, and continuous workshops, Avalanche is planting firm roots across the continent.

The Avalanche Developer Workshop in Nairobi was a reminder that blockchain isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a tool for empowerment, education, and entrepreneurial growth.

The main goal was to grow the Avalanche ecosystem and scale Avalanche to places that Avalanche never existed before... Avalanche scales to Africa, specifically to Kenya, and this year, June will be turning one year. So I hope you'll be part of the community to celebrate one year anniversary with us.
