DCP Decries Escalating Political Intimidation, Urges Independent Inquiry into Mounting Unrest

The Democracy for the Citizens Party has raised alarm over a series of violent incidents in parts of the country it says are being deliberately destabilized for political reasons. In a press briefing held in Nairobi, party leaders condemned what they described as a dangerous escalation of state-linked intimidation, selective law enforcement, and targeted attacks in areas perceived to be politically out of step with the current administration.

According to the party, recent events in constituencies across Central and Eastern Kenya reflect a pattern of disruption, economic sabotage, and suppression of civic expression. The incidents, which include destruction of property and violent interference in public gatherings, have prompted renewed concern over the independence of state institutions tasked with ensuring public order.

When a homestead is burning, and the one holding the water turns their back, the community must ask questions. What we are witnessing is not coincidence. It is organized disruption, and those with the power to stop it are watching in silence.”

Evidence of Inaction and Impunity

The DCP cited widespread public footage showing armed individuals involved in attacks, some of which were carried out in broad daylight and aired on national media. Despite the availability of visual evidence, the party noted that no meaningful arrests or prosecutions have followed.

At the same time, there has been a visible pattern of targeting elected leaders and public figures who have expressed views critical of the administration. The party pointed to the arrest and harassment of vocal parliamentarians, while those responsible for inciting or financing violence remain untouched.

You do not chase the cockerel while feeding the fox.The ones who planned, paid, and executed these acts are known, but instead the net is cast where it is politically convenient. That tells the country all it needs to know.”

Mounting Pressure for International Oversight

In view of what it describes as the shrinking democratic space and the increasing use of force against civilians, the DCP called for independent and international scrutiny. The party suggested that Kenya’s current trajectory threatens to erode constitutional protections and could potentially violate international human rights norms.

When a tree bends too far, it breaks. This country is stretching its tolerance. Those entrusted with the national shield must not be the ones wielding it against the people.”

The party is proposing a formal parliamentary inquiry into the unrest, including the alleged misuse of public funds for political purposes, the logistics behind the deployment of disruptive groups, and the role of security agencies in allowing the violence to occur unchecked.

Warnings from the Mount Kenya Region

A significant part of the briefing focused on the Mount Kenya region, which DCP officials said has faced deliberate destabilization in recent weeks. The statement highlighted attacks on supermarkets, shops, and transport systems suggesting that such events were part of a larger effort to economically and psychologically weaken regions associated with political neutrality or opposition.

The party dismissed claims that the incidents were spontaneous, pointing instead to the systematic movement of groups, the timing of the attacks, and the lack of preventative action by local security commands.

When the goats scatter and no herder calls them back, we must ask: whose herd is it really? These events are too timed, too funded, too precise to be random. Someone knows, and someone is covering.”

Condemnation of Excessive Force

The briefing also included a strong condemnation of the use of live ammunition and excessive force in response to public demonstrations. The party criticized the disproportionate tactics being employed, warning that attempts to silence political dissatisfaction through violence would only escalate tensions.

“You cannot silence pain with bullets. If the house is leaking, silencing the elder who speaks up will not stop the rain. The government must climb down from its high perch and listen before the damage becomes unmanageable.”

The DCP emphasized that the only viable path forward lies in constructive listening, dialogue, and respect for constitutional freedoms. The party called on all arms of government to uphold the rule of law impartially and protect the right to peaceful assembly and expression.

A Call to Restore Order and Confidence

As the country continues to experience economic and political uncertainty, the party warned that eroding trust in public institutions could result in long-term national instability. It urged independent agencies, religious institutions, and civil society to remain vigilant and push back against authoritarian tendencies.

A nation is not guarded by guns alone it is guarded by trust. And trust once broken, is not easily restored. This is the hour for courage, not coercion.”

The DCP concluded its briefing by reaffirming its commitment to legal and peaceful means of political engagement and pledged to continue advocating for accountability through parliamentary, civic, and judicial processes.
