Kenya Launches 2024 Forest Status Report: A Roadmap for Climate Action

President William Ruto’s government has been vocal about environmental conservation and climate action. With the launch of the Forest Status Report 2024, the administration is signaling its commitment to forestry protection, carbon trading, and climate resilience. But will these policies translate into real action?
Speaking at the launch, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Aden Duale, emphasized that Kenya is among the first African nations to implement comprehensive climate legislation and carbon market trading regulations. He called on investors to tap into the 140 million tons of carbon market potential, promising that the government is creating an enabling environment for climate financing.
I urge all stakeholders—government agencies, private sector players, development partners, and local communities—to work collectively. This report is not just a document; it must be a roadmap for real action.
The report outlines a two- to five-year plan to enhance forest cover, strengthen climate resilience, and drive economic gains through sustainable forestry.
The Forest Status Report 2024 is yet to be made public, but related environmental policy documents can be found on the Ministry’s official website.
