Paul Muite Calls for Digital Election Platform and Youth Dignity as Safina Party Welcomes Jimi Wanjigi

A Landmark Transition for Safina
The Safina Party entered a historic new chapter at the National Special Delegates Conference, held at the Ngong Race Course, Nairobi. Senior Counsel Hon. Paul Muite, the party’s founder and longtime leader, formally handed over the reins to Hon. Jimi Wanjigi, with Willis Otieno assuming the role of Deputy Leader.
In his farewell, Muite reflected on Safina’s resilience, tracing its journey through three decades of political adversity and its refusal to compromise on its founding philosophy.
“Safina is one of the oldest parties... we have stayed focused, and we have stayed true to those ideals.”
A Digital Future for Election Integrity
Muite’s most urgent recommendation was the creation of a party-run digital platform to safeguard election integrity. He urged Safina to build its own system for posting results from every polling station - photographed and uploaded instantly to a central website.
But he also warned of challenges: possible internet shutdowns or interference by powerful telecoms acting under state capture. For Muite, decentralization and transparency were the only real protection against manipulation.
Making Voter Suppression Visible
Turning to voter registration, Muite pressed the new leadership to track and publicize data on youth and Gen Z access to ID cards. He condemned bribery demands from local officials and urged Safina to expose them openly.
For Muite, reform begins with evidence: by documenting systemic exclusion and putting it in the public domain.
Corruption as Looting: A Call for Action
On corruption, Muite’s language was blunt. He described the current regime’s handling of public funds not as mismanagement but outright theft.
He challenged Safina to organize demonstrations immediately, framing peaceful protest as the only language the government truly responds to.
Youth, Work, and Dignity
Muite also centered Kenya’s youth, warning of the indignity faced by graduates unable to secure work or independence.
He urged the new leadership to tie Safina’s policies to economic fairness and genuine job creation, restoring dignity for young people.
Safina’s Future
Closing his address, Muite expressed faith that the new team would carry forward Safina’s founding ideals - justice, accountability, and civic nationalism.
“God bless you. God bless Safina, and I wish you success and Godspeed.”
