Proto Energy Launches 2025 Sustainability Report, Reinforces Commitment to Clean Energy Access in Kenya

Proto Energy Limited today officially launched its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting the company’s strides in making clean, affordable, and inclusive energy accessible across Kenya. The event, held at the Nairobi Serena Hotel, marks a significant milestone for Proto Energy, underlining its dedication to sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and social impact.

The report emphasizes not only measurable achievements but also the stories and initiatives behind the company’s ongoing journey to transform lives through energy.

Driving Clean Energy Inclusion

During a press briefing, CEO Joel Kamau emphasized the company’s mission to make LPG available and affordable for all Kenyans.

Our biggest goal is to ensure there is gas in every household. Gas is twice as affordable as charcoal and wood, cleaner, and safer. It creates more possibilities for families and helps children spend more time in school, contributing to better futures.

Joel Kamau, CEO, Proto Energy

He highlighted the contrast between urban and rural energy access: LPG penetration in Nairobi stands at 45%, while rural areas see only 35%, illustrating the opportunity to expand clean energy access nationwide.

Strategic Partnerships and Operational Integrity

Proto Energy has partnered with institutions such as EPRA to increase LPG availability while ensuring the integrity of every cylinder in circulation. Kamau highlighted how these partnerships enhance both market growth and consumer safety, reinforcing the company’s leadership in Kenya’s LPG sector.

Through this sustainability journey, we operate with integrity, invest in innovation, and continue to expand access to clean energy, impacting lives across the country.

Beyond Energy: Social and Environmental Impact

The 2025 Sustainability Report positions Proto Energy as a company committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting clean energy, health, education, and inclusive economic opportunities. By reducing reliance on charcoal and wood, the company contributes to environmental preservation while improving health outcomes for families across Kenya.

The report also emphasizes gender inclusion, highlighting how access to LPG reduces the time women spend on fuel collection and cooking, freeing them to pursue education, entrepreneurship, and other opportunities.

Looking Ahead

Proto Energy’s 2025 Sustainability Report is not just a reflection of past achievements—it is a roadmap for the company’s continued efforts to make clean energy accessible, affordable, and safe for all Kenyans. Through innovation, integrity, and strategic partnerships, the company is positioning itself as a driving force for sustainable energy adoption in Kenya and beyond.
