UDA Embarks on Nationwide Grassroots Elections in 22 Counties

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to conduct the second phase of its grassroots elections on April 11th and 12th, 2025, across 22 counties. This follows a successful first phase in five counties and marks a significant step in strengthening the party’s democratic processes.
The National Steering Committee, together with the National Elections Board, convened today to deliberate on the roadmap for these elections. According to UDA’s official statement, the party has registered 113,800 candidates who will be vying for various positions in the upcoming exercise.
The elections will take place in: Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Migori, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, and Turkana.
Digital Transformation of UDA Elections
To ensure transparency, efficiency, and credibility, UDA has procured over 10,000 digital election devices to facilitate the exercise. The party emphasizes that the elections will be open, free, and fair, with instantaneous results at poll closure.
Almost 150 Members of Parliament, to be met over and above that. To the county assembly, where we have nearly more than half elected members of the county assembly in the Republic of Kenya. The same to the Council of Governors, and of course, at the presidential election. So this is part of making the party stronger, and planning for the future.
The UDA leadership has reiterated that grassroots elections play a crucial role in empowering local leaders and ensuring communities have a say in political representation.
I don’t think there is any other political party in the country that can pride itself on that achievement. That is in living up to our spirit as a proper party of the ordinary grassroots citizens, so that we can have feedback from citizens across the country. Subsequent to this, we shall be announcing the next date in the days to come for the remaining counties, with a view to perhaps later in the year concluding elections in all the 47 counties of the Republic of Kenya. So we are extremely proud as UDF party. We are invigorated. We are energized. We are ready to go.
A Call to Action for UDA Members
UDA Chairperson Hon. Cecily Mbarire, EGH, emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement in shaping Kenya’s political future:
These elections represent a pivotal moment in our journey towards strengthening democracy in our nation. Grassroots elections are vital in ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard and represented. By empowering local leaders, we cultivate a leadership that is not only responsive but also accountable to the people.
UDA members interested in contesting for positions can register through the party’s online portal (UDA.ke) before Friday, March 21, 2025, at midnight.
Looking Ahead
The UDA’s grassroots elections are expected to solidify the party’s national presence ahead of future electoral contests. The leadership remains confident that the process will enhance internal democracy, strengthen grassroots participation, and bolster party structures for long-term political influence.
With UDA’s continued push for a strong grassroots movement, will this process redefine Kenya’s political landscape? The results of these elections will undoubtedly shape the party’s direction in the coming years.
